Central Texas clay soils move seasonally, and an addition's foundation has to be engineered to move with the existing structure — not against it. We pier and tie in to the engineer's detail, every time, because a cracked seam two summers later is the classic mark of a cut corner.
The roofline is the other tell. A clean tie-in takes framing skill and honest design time; a bolted-on look is forever. We design the roof first, not last.
